This was my first time making pizza at home and I wanted to make the dough from scratch but with 2 kids and my nephew in town there simply wasn’t anytime so I cheated a bit. My kids love pizza nights and bacon is a must-have topping in my home!
Simple Tomato Sauce
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 peeled yellow onion
- 2-3 crushed garlic cloves
- salt and pepper
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- pinch of cilantro leaves (optional)
Bring the crushed tomatoes and all the ingredients to a medium simmer. Add the 1/2 peeled onion whole (dispose of later) and cook for about 30-40 min. Make sure it thickens, add just a tiny bit of water to dilute the sauce. Add more or less salt and pepper depending on your preferences.
- home or pre-made dough
- toppings of your choice ( I chose turkey bacon because it’s a lot healthier than the real deal)
- olive oil
- shredded mozzarella cheese
- Pre-heat oven to 425 F 20mins ahead of time
You’ll need to roll out the dough on a floured surface and make sure you have a bit of flour on the hands as well. Start pushing the dough with your fingers from the center working outwards. Add your tomato sauce, cheese and toppings. Stick this on a greased cookie sheet and brush some olive oil on the crust. Place in the oven for about 9-11 minutes and it’s all done!
