6 New Items Per Season

I must say being a blogger and keeping things to a minimum can be a difficult task but I think I’ve been managing everything pretty well. When it comes to clothes I feel less is more and quality or quantity. I’m still missing a few staple pieces to my wardrobe (which I will be investing in a particular item very soon!) and I’m also heading to NYC in May so it will be perfect timing to find new items for Spring.

So I made a promise to myself to only purchase 6 new items for each season wether they are trendy or staple pieces. But the catch is to get rid of 1-2 items I already own, the one in one out policy.

On My (very monochrome) Shopping List

  1. Black ankle boots, I can wear them all year round
  2. The good ole black skinny jeans
  3. Birkenstocks, yup you read right!
  4. COH jeans
  5. I’m a hat girl so I’m patiently waiting for the Janessa Leone Fall 2015 collection to release, I’m 100% positive I’ll be placing an order!
  6. Jumpsuit, all black of course

Things I need to avoid

  1. Online browsing at night, gets me all the time!
  2. Sales (unless it’s too good to pass up)
  3. Alternatives or dupes, I find that if you spend a bit more it holds up better and you save money in the long run. You are better off buying one good thing instead of buying 5 different versions of it because they don’t last as long

When I’m investing in key items I do a thorough review of the product (tendencies of a blogger) and sit on it for a while. This gives me time to piece outfits together in my head and see if it’s something I really need, will I get my moneys worth? Stay tuned for a recap and see if I stay true to this little experiment.

What a great list! I love COH and Jbrand jeans – they’re so well made and comfortable.
6 new items per season while purging 2 sounds like quite a challenge! Would love to know how the experiment goes 😉

If you haven’t bought your black ankle boots yet, I would suggest a pair of black suede Isabel Marant “Dicker” boots. An investment up front, no doubt, but I’ve worn mine daily for 5 years now and they are still in near-perfect condition.

  • Connie

I absolutely love the black lace bra! I’ve been stocking up on some from absolutely every lingerie store.

I’m so bad at quality or quantity and throwing out things when I purchase new ones! I really really have to up my game hahah! I have two pairs of birks though and they are heavenly! x

Girl, I think the both of us need to avoid cruising the Zara website at all hours of the day and night. Like, really. I started putting into practice the whole “one in, one out” thing too and you know what? It’s really helped me curb my spending (on clothes, that is). Also, I’m at the point in my life where I really don’t need to buy any more clothes. I have everything I need and the only time I need to purchase something is if my original gets worn out.

Stripes are my favourite all year long!!

Great ideas, I’d like to try the one in one out policy too as I always seem to end up with so many clothes that I don’t wear!

This is such a good idea, I tend to splurge all at once (generally like you, in the middle of the night haha) and then I can’t allow myself any more clothes because I feel guilty for spending so much 😉 I like this idea though, might have to use it myself!

Great ideas. Black skinny jeans is a necessity in my wardrobe all year. I love the striped top and lace black bra too x

Sales will be the death of me. I’m trying REALLY hard to avoid the ShopBop madness that’s happening right now.

I love the concept of investing in staples. I try, but I somehow always get sucked into the latest sale. It’s something I’m working on – hah! Have a great weekend! xoxo

very great shopping habits to make. i only wish i started earlier 🙂

  • Tatiana’s Delights

I feel the whole minimalism-thing is growing rapidly and it is really something I try to stick to as well! At least once a year I clean out my closet and get rid of anything that I don’t wear, and I try to buy only good quality new pieces. And when I really do want to go with a new trend I buy that piece quite cheaply. On my wishlist is still a camel coat, a navy blazer and black loafers.

such a good idea! I need to start organising my shopping better. This season I’m looking for a good quality tartan shirt and some nice fitting jeans.

Hi Tamira, love shopping for bits for the new season. For the basics I love Zara tops, Gap jeans and Birkenstocks, which I have been wearing for 10 years. Hope all good with you and yours, keep checking in your blog etc. Did you get to sneak a peek at my blog & IG in the end? Would love another opinion especially from one of my inspirations. Thanks lovely!

This is so so true! I’ve got makeup shopping down but when it comes to clothing, I feel like I need to up my game. I’ve recently done a BIG wardrobe clear out and really forced myself to only keep what I REALLY need/wear. Now I need to be very conscious about the pieces that I will purchase for the next season. And I’m totally digging your last tip. Very true! xo

Hi there, Love your blog. I really like the bra in the photo. Could you tell me where it’s from? Keep up the good work!

    • Thank you so much!! The Bra is from Aritzia! xoxo

  • kshakya @ thefunkybeans

I have that COS stripped tee too and I love it! And I also believe that it better to buy the real deal than dupe or alternatives! PS you have a lovely blog!

I need to adopt the one in one out policy! That bra and those jeans are dreamy.

    • Thanks dear! Its tough but can be done!

I love this post! I am the same, as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised that quantity is much more important than quality! I invested in some Isabel Marant boots in January last year and they remain a staple in my wardrobe. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect black boots too, and I would love a pair of citizens of humanity jeans a la Nicole Ritchie! I don’t think I could manage to be as strict as only 6 new pieces per season but I have really tried to reduce my shopping dramatically. Just found your blog and I love it!!

  • Joksie Adewale

I love this post. I hit a shopping wall a few weeks ago when I turned 18, and soon realised that my closet is bursting with things I barely wear… It’s hard balancing what goes in and out when you’re a blogger because you just want to keep everything!

  • shyusized

I’m doing a capsule wardrobe challenge right now so I’m also trying to be very smart about “browsing” online… it’s so hard but so satisfying when you know you can control yourself and say no to a good sale when you have to!

  • NoOvernightGuests

Hmmm. Six new items per season…
