Although the shimmers and frosts are gawjus everyone needs those basic transition shades to create depth to the eyes. Mattes are very boring and blah in the pan but if used correctly they can change the way your eye makeup looks completely! Mattes are honestly my favorite type of shadow (shut the f-ing door right). They can really carve out the eye shape and look great with a liquid flick. I’ve tried plenty of mattes the past few years and have come across some HG’s. There are 3 brands that stood out to me immediately and are definitely worth looking into…
Urban Decay – I love their Naked Basics Palette which is meant to be all mattes but has one nude shimmer shade. You can even buy them individually if you’re looking for one shade in particular. They’re pigmented and very easy to blend. They do have a bit of fall out when picking some up on a brush but nothing a tissue can’t fix.
Burberry – Ultra luxurious but you get what you pay for. They’re the softest shadows I’ve ever used hands down and you get a ton of product in the pan. They feel creamy to the touch and blend like a dream. A great investment if you’re planning to use these everyday. Trench is an excellent brow bone highlight and works on most skin tones.
M.A.C – Probably the most affordable and dependable. They have an abundance of shades which can be quite overwhelming but good for different skin-tones. I love that you’re able to purchase them in pan form and create your own palettes. So if you wanted to you can make a little quad of mattes and keep them all in one place.
Keep in mind that mattes are great crease shades to add dimension, wonderful transition shades to give that smokey effect, and to blend out any harsh edges. Go get you some…
