Best Matte Shadow Formulas

matteeyeshadows

Although the shimmers and frosts are gawjus everyone needs those basic transition shades to create depth to the eyes. Mattes are very boring and blah in the pan but if used correctly they can change the way your eye makeup looks completely! Mattes are honestly my favorite type of shadow (shut the f-ing door right). They can really carve out the eye shape and look great with a liquid flick. I’ve tried plenty of mattes the past few years and have come across some HG’s. There are 3 brands that stood out to me immediately and are definitely worth looking into…

Urban Decay – I love their Naked Basics Palette which is meant to be all mattes but has one nude shimmer shade. You can even buy them individually if you’re looking for one shade in particular. They’re pigmented and very easy to blend. They do have a bit of fall out when picking some up on a brush but nothing a tissue can’t fix.

Burberry – Ultra luxurious but you get what you pay for. They’re the softest shadows I’ve ever used hands down and you get a ton of product in the pan. They feel creamy to the touch and blend like a dream. A great investment if you’re planning to use these everyday. Trench is an excellent brow bone highlight and works on most skin tones.

M.A.C – Probably the most affordable and dependable. They have an abundance of shades which can be quite overwhelming but good for different skin-tones. I love that you’re able to purchase them in pan form and create your own palettes. So if you wanted to you can make a little quad of mattes and keep them all in one place.

Keep in mind that mattes are great crease shades to add dimension, wonderful transition shades to give that smokey effect, and to blend out any harsh edges. Go get you some…

I enjoy Burberry Trench too! And I love the idea of a quad of Mac mattes, because my 15 pan palette is almost all shimmers (except for Brule, Handwritten and Cork).
A luxury matte palette I *adore* is Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage. Only the darkest shade has very slight shimmer.

Ever since I got the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, I kinda ditched all my other shadows. It will do that to you.

I’ve recently discovered a bit of a shocker: Clinique has incredible matte shadows! As does Stila, but that’s pretty much well known at this point. But yes, my go to neutral quad from Clinique has brilliant matte shadows that are soft, without being too soft…blend easily, pack a lot of pigment and last!

I would like to submit another contender in Inglot’s matte shadows…creamy and buttery, soft, very little to no fallout, and a GIANT range…not only that but they’re so affordable and you get a ton of product. Totally beat mac’s mattes out of the water. The only ones that seem to hold a candle to inglot are mac’s matte2, but those seem to be getting discontinued really fast.

I love NAKED basic too, I use the shimmer one for highlighting my brow bone 😀

I love the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette! The formula is absolutely fantastic. MAC also has some great matte shades. By far my favorite matte shade is Blanc Type, I’ve gone through 2 of them in the past few years. I also really loved the Makeup Geek matte eyeshadows, I feel like they’re very comparable to the MAC matte formula.
